Term 2 Week 6: What We Are Learning This Week

Literacy: This week students are will continue to learn about the digraph ow (as in cow and flow). They will be using these sounds to read/write words and construct sentences. During guided reading sessions this week I will expose students to the reading strategy 'Hop, Skip and Jump Kangaroo' to encourage them to read to the end of a book and come back if something doesn't make sense. In writing lessons this week students will continue to learn about the structure of a report. As a whole class we will be inventing reports about dinosaurs. Handwriting sessions this week will focus on the  curly caterpillar letters a, c, o & d.

Numeracy: The math focus for this week is measurement and geometry focusing on fractions. Students will also demonstrate their understanding of skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. During mental maths we will be revising telling the time and using number lines.

Chemical Science: This week we will be looking at cooked and uncooked spaghetti and discussing how it has changed. Students will decide which type of spaghetti would be the best to use to construct a "Spaghetti Tower."

History: This term we are discussing the differences and similarities between students daily lives and life during their parents and grandparents childhoods, including family traditions, leisure time and communications. Last week students completed timelines of their lives. This week students will discuss time lines as a class focussing on three time periods of the dinosaurs. We will be making a class timeline on string where students place dinosaurs in the correct period.
