Term 2 Week 4: What We Are Learning This Week

Literacy: This week students are learning about the digraphs ar and or. They will be using these sounds to read/write words and construct sentences. During guided reading sessions this week I will be exposing students to the reading strategy 'Say the first sound mouse' to encourage them to hear the initial sound in words as they are reading. In writing lessons this week students will continue to learn about the structure of a report. As a whole class we will be innovating a report about a duck. Students will begin to write they own reports. Handwriting sessions this week will focus on the zig zig monster letters w, z, x & v.

Numeracy: The math focus for this week is number and algebra specifically focusing on ordering numbers from largest to smallest and smallest to largest. Students will revise place value by making two digit numbers to one hundred with tens and ones.

Science: This week students will conduct a science investigation in pairs. Our investigation will pose the question "What happens to a volcano when we change the amount of ingredients we add to the cup?" Students will use their science inquiry skills to plan, conduct and evaluate their investigation.
